The Bottom-Up Difference

Trope on the Go™ was built by a cantor to support the real work of learning and teaching cantillation: individual trope sounds first, then words, sequences, and full readings.

You do not just want your students to learn their portions. You want them to learn the system. Because when they know the system, they can read anything.

The app that supports your lesson.

Trope on the Go™ gives students a structured way to keep working after they leave your office, with readings, sound maps, feedback, and focus tools in one place.

Everything Between Lessons Gets Easier

Students can practice with structure, feedback, and confidence without waiting for the next appointment.

Practice anywhere No download, no installation, just open the browser and begin.
Torah and Haftarah The complete cantillation system in the palm of your hand.
Syllable clarity Every word is automatically syllabified so students know where the trope goes.
Focused practice The app finds the words and sequences that use the tropes being studied.
Sound maps

Can't read music? Students can still see how the chant moves.

Animated sound maps show exactly how to pair each trope with words of any length, turning abstract musical motion into a clear visual path.

Pitch feedback

Instant feedback when the teacher is not in the room.

Real-time pitch detection lets students compare what they sang against the target notes, helping them hear and see what needs attention.

All clergy, Jewish educators, ritual directors, qualified tutors and seminary students will receive full access to the app for all time without limitation. We consider it a professional courtesy, and hope that if you like it, you will share your ideas to help improve the app as well as share it with your students, congregants and other professional colleagues.
Founding members are the first subscribers — people who joined before the public launch through personal invitation. The founding member rate ($7.99/month or $79.99/year) is locked for life as long as your subscription stays active. It will include ALL features and upgrades the app will ever have, and will never increase, regardless of what the standard price becomes after August 15.
No. The 7-day free trial gives you full access to all tropes within either Torah or Haftarah with no payment information required. At the end of the trial, you can choose to subscribe — and if you're still in the founding member window, you'll lock in the founding member rate.
The app launches with Ashkenazi cantillation for Torah and Haftarah based on the Polish-Lithuanian tradition.
The ability to add additional trope variations is planned for upcoming releases.
In future versions, the ability to upload your own recordings in place of the existing ones is one of the most important features we envision. We believe your students will learn best when they hear YOUR voice.
Yes. Support for additional trope systems is at the top of our list for future releases.
Yes. We built this app with such learners in mind. Not everyone who wants to learn Biblical chant has a bar mitzvah or other special occasion coming up. That's why we included a library of over 4000 common words and phrases.
The tikkun view built into Trope on the Go is a verse-by-verse display that can and does change based on the width of the browser window, rather than adhering to the dictates of what students would see in a real Torah scroll. It is meant to approximate the experience of reading from a tikkun so the student can gain experience reading without nikud, without having to shlep around heavy books or papers everywhere they go. Future versions of the app will likely include a "real" tikkun-style display.
The Hebrew biblical text displayed in Trope on the Go is Mikra according to the Masorah (MAM), a digital edition of the Tanakh prepared by Seth (Avi) Kadish that reflects the Masoretic tradition as represented in the Aleppo Codex and closely related manuscripts. The text is retrieved via the Sefaria API and rendered verbatim, including all ta'amei ha-mikra and nikud.
Yes. Via our interface with HebCal and Sefaria, we are able to identify exactly which readings will take place on any date that you enter. You can toggle between Full Kriah and Triennial or enter your own custom reading.
Yes. Whether you choose Full Kriah, Triennial or enter a custom reading, the app knows where the last Siluk phrase is and automatically changes the melody accordingly.
Not at all. The app is designed for anyone who can hear and sing — no music theory required. The sound maps use color and visual cues (not sheet music notation), and pitch detection works by ear, not by reading notes.
While Trope on the Go is designed for learners at every level, including and especially total beginners, there is no substitute for the guidance of a trained professional or mentor. This app is meant to help streamline and improve the effectiveness of students' practice time, not to replace the guidance and care of a trusted teacher.
It's a web app that works on any device — phone, tablet, or desktop — without downloading anything from an app store. You can add it to your home screen for a native-app feel. Native iOS and Android apps are planned for a future release.
Trope on the Go™ was built by a cantor with years of experience teaching Biblical cantillation. The app reflects the pedagogy, the domain expertise, and the frustration of watching students struggle with tools that hadn't improved in decades, or even centuries! Every design decision comes from real teaching experience.
Yes — institutional licensing for congregations, day schools, and cantorial programs is in development. If you're interested in group access for your organization, please use the professional access form and mention your institution.

About the Creator

Trope on the Go™ was created by Mike Weis, a cantor invested at the Jewish Theological Seminary and a longtime member of the Cantors Assembly.

Mike has spent years teaching Torah and Haftarah cantillation to students of all ages and backgrounds. Before becoming a cantor, he was an entrepreneur, and Trope on the Go™ is the product of a lifetime of professional experience finally coming together in a single app.

He built this app because he saw the same struggle in his students over and over: the gap between what they learned in lessons and what they could do on their own. He wanted every student to have a practice partner as rigorous, focused, and faithful to the tradition as their cantor.

Simple, transparent,
sustainable.

No ads. No data selling. No free tier that expires. Just a fair price for a tool built to last.
